Introduction
The fourth and final book in The Naturals series, Bad Blood drops readers straight back into the high‑stakes world of these brilliant teens as they face their most dangerous case yet. Jennifer Lynn Barnes first released this instalment in 2016, and with a brand new addition to the series arriving in November 2026, now feels like the perfect time to revisit the story or dive in for the first time.
A Summary
Bad Blood throws Cassie and the Naturals into their most personal and dangerous case yet. Cassie has spent years trying to piece together what really happened to her mother, and this book finally forces her to confront the truth she has been chasing since the beginning. The answers she finds are far more complicated than she ever expected, and they pull the team into the orbit of a secretive organisation that has been operating quietly for generations.
As the Naturals dig deeper, the stakes rise fast. This isn’t just another killer to profile or another pattern to decode. Someone is watching them, anticipating their moves and pushing them toward a confrontation they might not be ready for. With bodies turning up and time running out, the team has to rely on everything they have learned and everyone they have become.
Writing Style
Bad Blood is written in first person through Cassie Hobbes, paired with a dual POV that includes the unsettling ‘You’ snippets. Knowing who the ‘You’ perspective belongs to from the start gives the book a different kind of tension and makes the whole story feel sharper. The pacing is fast, the chapters are short and the writing has that addictive rhythm that keeps you turning pages without realising how far you’ve gone. The characters feel more fleshed out than ever, and the dialogue between the Naturals stays quick, clever and darkly funny in all the right moments.
What I Loved
Love is an understatement on how I feel about this novel. What really stood out to me in Bad Blood was how every thread from the earlier books finally came together. It felt like the series had been quietly laying foundations all along, and this final instalment rewarded anyone who had been paying attention. Plot points that once seemed small or throwaway suddenly mattered, and the way everything clicked into place made the story feel intentional and incredibly satisfying. The mystery itself was gripping from start to finish. I kept thinking I had a handle on what was happening, only for the book to pull the rug out from under me (or make my jaw drop). It felt unique, sharp and genuinely surprising in a way that made the whole experience even more fun. I also appreciated that Jennifer Lynn Barnes did not shy away from a tough ending. She chose an ending that fit the world, the characters and the emotional weight of the story rather than going for something neat or easy. It felt like a real goodbye that respected the journey these characters had been on. It hit hard, but in a way that felt right for the tone of the book. The character arcs were another highlight. The Naturals still feel like teenagers, which I loved. They have grown and changed, but they have not magically become adults. Each of them has been shaped by the events of the series, and you can see how their experiences have left marks on them. I especially loved getting more insight into Lia. She has always been the most guarded member of the group, and seeing her walls come down a little made her feel more real and layered. This book gives you a version of her that feels honest, and it was one of my favourite parts of the whole series
What I Didn’t Love
The only part that I wasn’t the largest fan of was that Celine’s character felt rushed. I still enjoyed her presence in the book, but it just didn’t feel as deep as the others and felt very last second. Each of the other characters had distinct personalities which tied into their childhood and trauma’s, whereas for Celine, her personality and trauma’s weren’t formed enough to make her abilities feel real. This is most certainly me being extra picky though, and I loved every other part.
