Introduction

Published in May 2026, Fury Bound is the second novel in The Wolves of Ruin Trilogy that has captivated the hearts of fantasy lovers across the world. This is the second novel ever published by Sable Sorenson - two authors that chose to co-write under one name - with the first being Dire Bound.

A Summary

Meryn Cooper never expected to sit on the throne, yet she now finds herself ruling a kingdom on the verge of collapse. Nocturna is cracking under the weight of old secrets and long‑buried grudges, and Meryn, along with her bonded direwolf Anassa, has to find a way to hold it together before the country tears itself apart. The people she needs most are the ones who trust her the least. Commoners, nobles and the Bonded all question her right to lead, and every decision she makes feels like a step into a trap. At the same time, her sister Saela is in greater danger than ever, and Meryn cannot afford to lose her. The only steady presence in her life is Stark Therion, the Alpha she once believed despised her. His loyalty is absolute, his guidance unsettlingly compelling, and with him she begins to understand the true extent of her power. Enemies are gathering, her dreams are turning darker, and the cost of failure grows heavier each day. Meryn risks losing her kingdom, her family and the one person she never meant to care for.

Writing Style

Fury Bound is a dual POV novel, with the perspectives of Stark and Meryn, with the chapters ranging in length by quite a lot. The plot is fairly fast paced, starting from where the last book ended off, which makes it a quick read compared to other novels of the same length.

My Thoughts

I knew the moment I finished Dire Bound that my life would not be able to continue until I had also finished Fury Bound, and now that I have finished it, my life will not continue until I can read Ruin Bound. But for now, I want to actually discuss my feelings on Fury Bound.

For starters, the level of immersion that the writing draws out is incredible. Within a few sentences, you are fully in the world and it is no longer just words on a page, which is difficult for me to achieve because I aren’t a particularly visual person. Yet Sorenson managed it, so I have to applaud that. The way that this book progressed felt very different than the first novel, especially with the dual POV aspect; I can tell that the authors had more fun with their writing in this novel than the first. Stark’s POV isn’t as present as I would have liked, but when it’s present, it feels purposeful and useful to the story. It’s also very clear that they are invested into this trilogy because even the minute details in the first novel are important in the second one. It’s honestly done extremely well. I adore the progression of Anassa’s relationship to Meryn, which feels extremely natural, and their heartfelt conversations really bring out the emotions.
Despite this being a clear 5 stars for me, there are things I wish were done differently. I want more originality, first and foremost, as it is clear they are following a tried-and-true formula that feels very similar to other fantasy novels. Now, I will say, they are doing it very well, which is why it’s still a 5 star rating, but I want them to have confidence in their skills as writers and push the boundaries more. There definitely were glimpses of that throughout the book, particularly with the character deaths and alliances that occurred, but I don’t think it was enough to satiate my desire for it. Also, despite my undying love for Stark’s character, it doesn’t feel original at all. Between his tattoo’s and scars, and the fact he was her mentor and, now, her protector, it seems all too familiar. In the third book, I am really hoping to see more of a character progression from him, which definitely seems to be possible with how Fury Bound ended.

Does Fury Bound Contain Sex Scenes?

Similar to the first novel, this book also contains a fair amount of explicit scenes, although the majority is in the later half of the novel.

Spice Level - 3/5

Recommendation

Absolutely I recommend this. It is just as good, if not better, than the first in my opinion. The chapters move so quickly and the story progresses incredibly well. Go read it.

Songs

Songs that I find reminiscent of the book:

Way Down We Go by Kaleo
You Can Run by Adam Jones
Used to the Darkness by Des Rocs
