Introduction

Death Row, published on 1st June 2025, was written by the infamous Frieda McFadden. It is a standalone novella, but it is part of an Amazon collection that includes 6 novels from different authors, all with the theme of ‘alibi’s’.

A Short Summary

This novella follows Talia, as she finds herself on death row for murdering her husband. With an alibi and no motive in sight, she struggles to understand why everyone seems determined of her guilt. That is, until she sees a supposed stranger - all too familiar - in the visiting area, and pieces start falling together in ways that cement Talia’s demise.

Did I enjoy it?

Definitely! I am an enjoyer of McFadden’s writing, and I felt this novella displayed my favorite parts of her writing in an easy-to-read format. It’s one of those reads that is a perfect palette cleanser - not the most magnificent writing ever but enjoyable nonetheless. I liked the plot twist; it took me by surprise but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Recommendation

For fans of Frieda McFadden, this story feels extremely similar (in the best way) to her other books, so I would definitely recommend it. I would also recommend this to those that may not want to commit to reading an entire McFadden book without knowing if her style is your type, as it is only 74 pages and can be listened to or read in an afternoon while you are running errands. It is also part of a collection on Amazon, known as the Alibi collection, so if you enjoy this style of writing, you have more at your fingertips!
